Carmen Astrologicum

Pentateuch; survives in Arabic (al-Ṭabarī) with Greek and Latin fragments

An astrological poem, lost in its Greek original and surviving in an Arabic translation, that treats retrograde planets in a birth chart as unfavourable. In Book I, ch. 6, a retrograde planet brings 'difficulty [and] misfortune' to the native; in ch. 24, retrograde planets in a strong nativity make him 'distressed, a coward', and in a bad one his condition tends toward deterioration (Pingree's translation).
