Astronomisches aus Babylon

oder das Wissen der Chaldäer über den gestirnten Himmel

The first decipherment of Seleucid-era Babylonian lunar and planetary ephemerides, by the Jesuits Joseph Epping and Johann Strassmaier. Working from those tables it reconstructed the astronomy of the Babylonians, the foundation for all later work on their planetary tables and the stations they record.
